About Outdoor Living Enhancements

Outdoor living enhancements cover the features that turn a finished yard into a space people actually use — lighting, fire features, garden planting, water features, pool-adjacent landscaping, and drainage. Tydan Landscape designs and builds these as part of one coordinated project rather than treating each as a separate hire, so the lighting plan accounts for where the fire feature goes, and the drainage plan accounts for where the garden beds go.

Install These Together Instead of One at a Time!

Most yards end up as a collection of one-off additions — a fire pit bought one summer, lighting strung up the next, a garden bed added without checking what it does to drainage on the low side of the yard. None of it's wrong on its own. It just doesn't work together, and by the third addition something usually has to be redone.

Tydan designs multi-feature backyard projects as one plan from the start — sequencing what gets built first (drainage and grading, generally, before anything sits on top of it), and coordinating trades like electrical for lighting or plumbing for water features so they don't conflict with what's already been placed. The same in-house team that does the design does the installation, which is most of why this works: nothing gets planned by one person and built by someone who never saw the plan.

What are Outdoor Living Enhancements?

Outdoor Lighting

Path, patio, and garden lighting placed as part of the overall layout — planned alongside the other features rather than added at the end to "finish it off."

Fire Features

Fire pits and outdoor fireplaces sited with sightlines, seating, and wind direction in mind — not just dropped into whatever open space is left.

Garden Installations

Planting design that works with the existing lighting, drainage, and hardscape plan instead of being the last decision made on-site.

Recreational Ponds & Water Features

Natural ponds and water features, built to the same standard as our dedicated water features and ponds work — see that section for pond-specific design options if water is the main feature you're planning around.

Pool-Adjacent Landscaping

Patios, decking, and planting designed around a new or existing pool — the landscaping that makes a pool feel like part of the yard instead of a slab dropped into the middle of it.

Drainage

Grading and drainage worked into the plan from the start, since it's the one piece that causes the most expensive problems later if it's an afterthought.

Outdoor Living Enhancements FAQ

Can I combine a few of these into one project instead of hiring separately for each?

Yes — that's the point of this service. A fire feature, lighting plan, and garden installation done together as one project, with one team sequencing the work, generally costs less and looks more cohesive than three separate additions done over separate seasons.

Does Tydan Landscape build swimming pools?

Tydan designs and builds the landscaping around a pool — patios, decking, and planting — rather than the pool structure itself. If you already have a pool, or a pool contractor lined up, Tydan can design the surrounding space to work with it.

What order do multiple features get built in?

Drainage and grading come first, since everything else sits on top of it. Hardscape (patios, pathways) generally follows, then features like fire pits or water elements, with planting and lighting typically finishing the sequence — though the exact order depends on the specific project.

Is this different from a full landscape construction project?

Landscape construction (excavation, hardscaping, drainage) is often the foundation a project like this gets built on. Outdoor living enhancements are the features layered onto that foundation — or added to a yard where the hardscape already exists.

What certification applies specifically to ponds and water features?

Tydan is a Master Certified Aquascape Contractor — the only one currently practicing in the London area — which applies directly to pond and water feature design and installation.
